In a world filled with incessant distractions and the fast pace of contemporary social and professional obligations, personal rest is often pushed aside, lowly prioritized, and even stigmatized as a weakness. The reality is that the need for mental respite has never been greater and it is essential that individuals and institutions begin to hold it in high regard. What if our built environment accommodated the activity of resting the mind, just as we legislate the need to accommodate access to other bodily nourishment, such as water fountains and restroom facilities?
